Radical Mending: Explorations in Repair
Has your personal or social fabric been stress tested in the last few years?
We're bringing back mending as a hands-on, metaphysical experiment in building counter-capitalist culture one stitch at a time. We'll share basic supplies and tools for common wears, tears, and ruptures; introduce hidden rules of recognition and turn them on their heads; and walk away with tangible ways to abundantly reinforce ourselves and one another in this new year.
Facilitators C. Con Yeh and Even Howard join forces in an explorative workshop to reclaim soul-healing in community with our hands in motion. Born from conversations and experiments over the last 5 years from their respective traditions in fiber arts & crafts and Radical Psychiatry, Even and Con offer engaging practices, sewing and mending guidance, and frameworks for community care. Our mission is to enliven folx's innate creative agency to experiment, disrupt, and reconstruct to our just right fit in a multicultural, vibrant future... today!
* Deconstructed Arts is a shoes-off venue with a small kitchenette. Bring your own dinner, beverages, and feel free to bring snacks to share. A small selection of beverages and snacks are available for sale. Doors open at 6:30; come early to get oriented and settled in. We have a combination of floor and table seating options. There are stairs to reach this second floor community space.
