The Tijuana River Crisis: Health, Accountability, and Hope for San Diego's South Bay

It has been called the biggest environmental crisis in America. And yet the contamination of the Tijuana River that affects millions of people on both sides of the U.S.-Mexico border is often treated as a local issue at the state and federal levels. CalMatters and inewsource will bring together the leading political leaders in the area to discuss what is being done to tackle this massive multinational problem, medical professionals to describe the impact the contamination is having on those who live near the polluted waterways, and the residents who deal with these issues daily. We will hear what leaders are doing to remedy the problem, what our doctors, nurses and teachers are seeing in parents and children and what help is available to the residents in the affected areas. And in their own words, hear from South Bay community members by exploring an exhibit of HOME SICK, an inewsource reporting project that highlights the voices of more than 100 locals who work, live and play in an area that they love — and that some say is also making them sick.
