En Pointe Against Brain Cancer
A spectacular night of dance and hope. Watch beautiful professional dancers from City Ballet San Diego and aspiring dancers from Lynch Dance Institute as they dance for children with brain cancer. En Pointe for Ava is a pediatric brain cancer nonprofit organization and we provide financial support to families with children diagnosed with life threatening brain cancer. En Pointe for Ava was formed in memory of our daughter Ava. Ava was 12 when she was diagnosed with a rare type of brain cancer: DIPG (Diffuse Intrinsic Pontine Glioma). She battled DiPG for 21 months before she laid down her sword and went to heaven. DIPG is universally fatal and 400 children are diagnosed each year in the US. With rare cancers come few treatment options. There are only a handful of clinical trials open across the US. Many families do not have local access to treatment which forces them to travel or do nothing at all. This travel can cost $5000 each month which doesn't include the loss of income because one parent usually is unable to work so as to care for their child. Also, children who are enrolled in clinical trials live longer. Their data is also crucial to finding a cure. Without the child's data a cure will never be found. Researchers are getting closer to a cure but there is still much work to be done. This is where En Pointe for Ava comes in. We provide the financial support for travel expenses.
