Place influences how we and our characters speak, what we eat, our influences and awareness; it shapes our beliefs, our values, and our moral choices. We cannot separate who we are from where we are or where we have been. History and memory are rooted in place and the map of our psyche and that of our characters is found in the geography of our past and in the present. Everything happens somewhere and readers want to know where that somewhere is, and how it influences the story. In this generative writing workshop, we’ll explore place through writing exercises and prompts.
For writers of fiction, memoir, and personal narrative.
