San Antonio Mastersingers Present Handel's Messiah II & III: From Passion to Resurrection
Building on the exceptional response to Handel’s Messiah, Part I — the Christmas selections -- presented last December, the San Antonio Mastersingers have added a special spring concert featuring Messiah, Parts II and III — From Passion to Resurrection -- on Sunday, April 12, 2026 at 4 p.m. at the acoustically beautiful University Methodist Church.
The Mastersingers’ December performance featured beloved arias and choruses from the Part I’s Christmas story and concluded with the powerful “Hallelujah” Chorus, “Worthy is the Lamb,” and “Amen” – from Parts II and III.
On the Sunday after Easter, audience members are invited to hear the “rest of the story.” In Messiah Parts II and III — From Passion to Resurrection, Handel leads listeners through the drama of Christ’s suffering and sacrifice to the triumph of the Resurrection and the promise of eternal life. The music moves from profound reflection and emotional intensity to radiant joy and celebration, featuring some of the most majestic choral writing in the sacred repertoire.
Conducted by Music Director Dr. Yoojin Muhn, the 125-voice auditioned Mastersingers chorus will once again be joined by a professional orchestra and the four sublime soloists who performed with them in December:
