Give Cancer the Boot Survivorship 5K and 1-Mile Walk

The Mays Cancer Center, home to UT Health San Antonio MD Anderson Cancer Center, is taking steps to conquer cancer with its 8th annual Give Cancer The Boot Survivorship 5K and 1-Mile Walk. The event will be an opportunity to celebrate life and give friends and family members a chance to show support for their loved ones. The race is open to all ages and fitness levels in the community. Participants can choose to run a chip-timed 5K or walk a mile. Various vendors, activities and entertainment are planned for attendees to enjoy, including performances by Folklorico dancers, a visit with San Antonio Fire Department Sparky the mascot, children’s activities, community vendor booths and other activities. Free oral cancer screenings will also be available. Cancer survivors will receive a free race entry and a special purple shirt representing cancer survivorship, and VIP treatment in a dedicated tent offering complimentary chair massages, mini makeup make-overs and other amenities. New this year is a Superhero kids dash, an exciting, kid-friendly, short race where young heroes of all ages get to show off their super speed and strength. The first 750 to cross the finish line will receive a custom finisher medal. Proceeds will benefit Patient and Family Services at the Mays Cancer Center, a program providing essential social service support to patients, including transportation for appointments, nutrition and clinical dietitian services, and assistance in helping patients address numerous barriers to care.
