Jazz Vocalist Slim Man Headlines La Cantera Resort & Spa Benefitting San Pedro Playhouse
La Cantera Resort & Spa, in partnership with Chandon, sets a fresh and jubilant tone for its annual Holiday Tree Lighting ceremony on Plaza San Saba, 7 to 9 p.m., Friday, November 22, just off the Resort’s main lobby.
Award-winning jazz vocalist Slim Man takes center stage showcasing what Rolling Stone calls a near perfect example of how jazz and soul can be combined as pop. As a songwriter for Motown Records, he’s had songs recorded by the Temptations, Angela Bofill, Carl Anderson, and later composed for Christina Aguilera. Slim Man went on to form BootCamp, its MTV videos catapulted the band into a successful concert career, performing with The B-52s, Squeeze, Split Enz, Johnny Winter, and more.
Slim Man organized and hosted a nationwide country music talent contest won by Ronnie Dunn, who later hooked up with Kix Brooks to form the multiple Grammy award-winning country music duo, Brooks and Dunn. In 1999, Slim Man sang for Pope John Paul II at the Vatican on Christmas Day.
