Photography Club of Davis Storm Chasing Workshop, Wednesday, October 16, 7:10pm, Davis Library

The Photography Club of Davis will meet on Wednesday, October 16, from 7:10pm—8:45pm in the Blanchard Room of the Davis Library at 315 E. 14th Street. Guest speaker Susan Lord Bovey will share her experience chasing storms and photographing these incredible weather events. This is a free event open to the public. Bovey says, “I've always been amazed at Mother Nature's beauty, power and temperament. But living in Central California, we don't get much dramatic weather. After seeing the original movie Twister in 1996, I was inspired to go to the High Plains to take a Twister Tour! I researched a couple companies, and saw that Tempest Tours had some great photographs from their staff and guests, so I booked my first tour. I've been on 6 tours so far, and if money allowed, I'd be going 2-3 times a year!” Bovey will show how a commercial storm tour works—from the morning briefings and weather forecasts—to the miles of driving to get in position for the afternoon storms. According to Bovey, “Our tour leader and weather man has over 20 years of chasing experience and can sniff out storms before they even develop on radar by researching wind currents, temperatures, dew points and moisture. Weather in the Midwest and High Plains can be very temperamental, and we never know what we'll experience. Tornadoes can have a mind of their own.” Information about the Photography Club of Davis is at https://photoclubofdavis.wordpress.com. Bovey’s work can be seen in local photography shows and online at www.flickr.com/photos/bovey. “This event is not sponsored by Yolo County Library and the presence of this group in the meeting room does not constitute Yolo County Library’s endorsement of the policies or beliefs of this group.”
