LIVE@DCC Free Second Friday Noon Concerts - Friday, March 13 - Clarinet, Violin, and Piano
Friday, March 13th, from noon -1 pm, Michelle Martin, violin; Robin Houston, clarinet; and LuAnn Higgs, piano, will perform works of Menotti, Milhaud, Ponchielli, and Schumann at the Davis Community Church's "LIVE@DCC" Second Friday FREE noon concert series. The Davis Community Church is located at 4th and "C" Streets, Davis.
Michelle Martin is an active freelance violinist throughout Northern California. She holds a Master of Music degree in violin performance from UNC Greensboro and a Bachelor of Music Summa Cum Laude from Furman University, which included a semester performing and studying in Arezzo, Italy.
Since moving to California in 2018, she has played with Stockton, Folsom Lake, Solano, Camellia, and Auburn Symphonies, Opera Modesto and Fresno Master Chorale, as well as numerous chamber ensembles. She has acted as concertmaster for the Light Opera Theatre of Sacramento, has performed in the Candlelight Concert circuits, and has been in the orchestras for Mannheim Steamroller, Irish Tenors, and Celtic Woman tours. Michelle has also collaborated on many local artists’ recording projects, performs regularly with her jazz trio Yolo Hot Club, and is one half of a roots rock duo, Crescent Moon.
Robin Houston is a retired parasitologist at the UC Davis School of Veterinary Medicine. Initially trained by clarinetist Deborah Pittman, he performs regularly in several Sacramento area community orchestras, including the Auburn Symphony, Folsom Lake Symphony and Camellia Symphony. It was in the early 90’s (1990’s that is) that he gained an interest in “Early Music,” where the clarinet composition repertoire is distinctly lacking. (Did we tell you that the clarinet was only invented in the early 18th century?) He has attended numerous San Francisco Early Music Society and Amherst Early Music workshops, first on recorder, then on shawms and dulcians, plus Baroque bassoon and oboe in the last twenty years. Since then, he has been a member of Bay Area Renaissance wind bands Alta Sonora, Project Zefiro and La Marina.
LuANN HIGGS accompanies and vocal directs in many venues in the Sacramento area. She is currently the accompanist for the Davis Chorale, Director of the High Holy Day Choir at Congregation B’nai Israel, and Director of the Davis Youth Choir. She has served as accompanist for several University of California, Davis, choirs and student recitals. She is often a Staff Accompanist at California State University Sacramento, where she has also vocal directed several musical theater productions.
