Five long-time Davis residents and artisans will host a Pop-Up Art Sale of their work on Saturday, December 6, at 1338 Notre Dame Dr. in Davis.
Enjoy unusual jewelry blending global artifacts and beads by Amina Harris; plein air and still life paintings and drawings by Nancy Gelbard; street and landscape photographs by David Kalb; hand-painted silk scarves by Rebecca Stein-Wexler; and unique hand-knitted wears by Norma Rice.
Amina Harris creates unusual jewelry blending beads, gemstones, and artifacts from all over the world. “My work brings together the unexpected, resulting in one-of-a-kind necklaces, collars, bracelets and earrings,” Harris said. She also serves as Queen Bee of The HIVE in Woodland and is a member of the Artery artist co-op in downtown Davis.
Nancy Gelbard has been painting in oils since 2015, when she joined her sisters in a painting workshop on the Central Coast. Most of her work is plein air landscape or still life, though her drawings focus on the human figure. She seeks to capture the whimsical and allow her artwork to tell a story.
David Kalb is a street photographer who loves Elliott Erwitt’s credo that “Photography is an art of observation. It’s about finding something interesting in an ordinary place”. According to Kalb, “I view this as eavesdropping on the world, roaming the streets of a city, camera at the ready, always keeping my eyes open for humorous situations, intriguing expressions, ironic moments, and touching interactions”.
Rebecca Stein-Wexler designs and hand-paints silk scarves, shawls, and wall art. She uses a palette of vivid dyes to create stylized images from the natural world. “I find the flow of color on silk mesmerizing and love creating art for people to enjoy.” Rebecca is also a member of the Artery
Norma Rice is the newest local artist and long-time Davis resident to join this group. She creates stunning knitted wears from a single strand of yarn. Each item is hand knit and unique, based on fiber content and colors.
If you’re looking for something beyond the usual gift, or for yourself this holiday season, visit these five local artists’ sale on Saturday December 6, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at 1338 Notre Dame Dr.
