Penfield Symphony Orchestra's "An American Tapestry" Concert May 4, 2026
The Penfield Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Music Director Dr. Jared Chase, will present “An American Tapestry” on May 4, 2026, the fourth concert of the PSO’s 70th season. The concert starts at 7:30 p.m. at Penfield High School at 25 High School Drive. Tickets are available at www.PenfieldSymphony.org or at the door. The concert is proudly presented by Heathwood Assisted Living and Memory Care.
“We are excited to be presenting a wonderful selection of American pieces to celebrate the 250th anniversary of our republic,” said Chase.
The concert opens with a festive fanfare written to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the Statue of Liberty.
John Williams’ Liberty Fanfare is a bright and energetic piece for brass and percussion that features bold fanfares and lively rhythms, making it a thrilling concert opener. Our Young Artist Competition Winner, Milo Anderson, will then present the third movement of Tchaikovsky’s famous Piano Concerto No. 1, a fast-paced, joyful, energetic piece featuring a powerful and triumphant dialogue between soloist and orchestra. Originally written as a ballet, Aaron Copland’s Appalachian Spring then paints a musical picture of early American life and the promise of a new beginning, highlighted by the well-known Shaker tune “Simple Gifts.” The concert concludes with Leonard Bernstein’s Symphonic Dances from West Side Story, which brings jazz, Latin rhythms, and sweeping melodies that capture the drama and energy of the musical, from its driving opening to the famous “Mambo” and the hopeful theme “Somewhere.”

Founded in 1955, the Penfield Symphony Orchestra (PSO) offers four classical music concerts per season to audiences of all ages. Amateur and professional musicians in the 90-piece orchestra enrich the Rochester community by providing fine classical, modern, and pops music. A 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization, the orchestra also sponsors an annual competition where young musicians audition to win recognition and an opportunity to solo with a symphony orchestra. Over its history, the PSO has commissioned many new works, and concerts have featured guest artists of local and national renown. The PSO Board of Directors and musicians are dedicated volunteers who are passionate about promoting arts and music and who, quite simply, like to make and perform great music together.
