Image City Presents RED 2025 Recption: February 21, 5:00-8:30

Image City Photography Gallery presents Red, an electrifying photography exhibit that explores the power, passion and presence of the color red. From emerging photographers to seasoned professionals, the exhibit features a wide range of talent and perspectives. With subjects spanning floral, street photography, still life, conceptual, portraiture, landscapes, wildlife, abstract and architecture, this collection captures the essence of red in its many forms---bold, romantic, serene and mysterious. The floral and still life images radiate warmth and delicate beauty. One piece "Sweet Reflections,” by Abby Westerman is a vintage still life composition that showcases a trio of strawberries against a dark background, evoking love and longing. “Flaming Headbanger,” an abstract floral by Elena Mickie LaPlaca, also set against a dark background, utilizes motion to depict a red flower in a modern interpretation. Man-made objects found within nature brings red to life in unexpected ways---a vibrant red couch against the complementary green background is displayed by Lisa Cook in her image titled “Red Couch.” Those same complementary colors can be found directly in nature such as in Dan Olean's image of the Northern Lights called "Aurora over Chimney Bluffs." From glowing sunsets to fall foliage, additional landscapes in the exhibit immerse viewers in the tranquility and mystery of red’s presence in nature. Red, often considered the color of passion, intensity and emotion are reflected beautifully in the portraits in this exhibit. A striking pose by the subject in Mike Putorti’s image, “Kathryn in Red” features effective use of lighting to give a glimpse of the subject’s bold red dress, necklace and subtle stripe on her hat Another image, "Innocence," by Elisa Knataitis, is a striking black and white portrait featuring the bright red lipstick on the model. Wildlife lovers might be drawn to the images that celebrate the vibrancy of the birds exhibited. The subject of Luke Viggiani’s image, “Drunken Pigeon” allows the viewer to see the red eye and beak often not noticed in the common pigeon. Flinn Hackett’s "Crimson Flight," an image of a female cardinal showcases the subtle red tones on its wings as well as its vibrant beak. Martha Price also chose a female cardinal "The Queen and Her Servants," with her proud display of its subtle shade of red. For those attracted by the avant-garde, the abstract and conceptual works in Red offer compelling surprises. “Christmas Day,” by Shawn Passmore features a composite of familiar objects layered together to provoke the viewer to think about what is represented. Another image, “World in Upheaval,” by Walter Jakubowski, takes a creative approach to representing various interpretations of his subject. What makes Red such a dynamic exhibit is its ability to evoke different emotions and perspectives. Some images pulse with energy, while others invite quiet reflection. Some tell powerful stories, while others leave room for personal interpretation. Whether you are a photography enthusiast, an art lover, or simply someone who appreciates the striking presence of red in our everyday world, this exhibit offers something for everyone.
