Early Hop Growing and Beer Production in the Genesee Country

From pioneer to immigrant, everyone enjoyed beer as a healthier alternative to often polluted well water. Learn how hops were grown and beer was made in the time of our ancestors, and where our early breweries and malt houses were located. Presented by Jane Oakes. Jane Oakes has been involved with historic education for over forty years, beginning with volunteer work as a teen at the Valentown Museum in Victor, New York, under the tutelage of the renowned historian J. Sheldon Fisher. She taught classes at the Genesee Country Village & Museum and was a Museum Studies and Local History teacher-consultant for the regional BOCES Gifted and Talented programs. Her research into local history has contributed to the placement of the Avon Opera Block and Avon’s Five Arch Bridge in Livingston County onto the National Register of Historic Places. Co-sponsored by the Perinton Historical Society and Fairport Public Library. Registration Required.
