Eve's Journey Stitched Fabric Art Exhibition in the Road to Virginia Quilter's Conference & Showcase

As just one of the many Special Exhibitions, Quilt Displays, Vendors and Classes at the Road to Virginia Quilter's Conference & Showcase, Eve's Journey is a collection of 38 stitched fabric artworks that offers visitors a different view of the art of quilting. These framed artworks follow sisters from different countries and cultures on a thought provoking journey through world history. The works are infused with imagery, mythology, symbolism and emotion in each 24" x 24" artwork. Women have been revered in some cultures and repressed in others, and often must shout to be heard. The vivid colors and bold symbolic imagery in these works provoke those voices across time. North Carolina Fiber Artist Naida Koraly has placed herself beside Eve's namesakes and her sisters as they take this journey. Each of the pieces of artwork are fashioned from hundreds of different textile fabrics, using raw edge applique, fusing techniques, quilt stitching and thread painting. After an original pattern was designed for each, fabrics were cut, blended and fused together. Dimension and detail was accomplished using free motion machine stitching. Visitors to the Road to Virginia Quilter's Conference & Showcase at the Greater Richmond Convention Center will be treated to a multitude of artistic adventures in quilting. Whether a seasoned stitcher or a curious creator, this show will have something for everyone. Women from all over the country will bring their sewing machines and tote bags to workshops and hands-on classes which will begin on Wednesday, June 26th and run through Saturday, June 28th. The show will open at 10am on Thursday, June 26th where hundreds of stunning quilts of all sizes, shapes, materials and makers will be on display. Amazing Raffle Quilts from a variety of regional Quilt Guilds will also be available, and a Vender Hall will offer the latest fabrics, notions, sewing and quilting machines, patterns, gifts and goodies. The Special Exhibits will showcase a rich variety of styles and substance. Tickets are $10 for the three-day event. Eve's Journey is a form of art quilting that goes way beyond the squares and takes fabrics and threads into the realm of fine art. Art quilts have served as a powerful form of artistic expression and storytelling since their emergence in the 1960s and 70s. As a distinct art form which continues to evolve, contemporary artists and quilters keep experimenting with new materials, techniques, and themes. As a member of SAQA, Studio Art Quilts Associates, Naida personifies their goal of bringing contemporary art quilts to venues across the globe. When asked what she hoped to achieve through Eve's Journey, Naida states, "My goal is to bring the story of everyday humanity to life, encouraging civic participation, making sure the arts can be shared with all levels of society. Viewers will be invited to gain the knowledge that women have been relevant throughout history, just as they are in today's society. I am honored to be an active, creative, vintage individual who has a lot more to offer in my lifetime. Women my age are often ignored and excluded, and scream to be noticed, to be heard and to be understood across generations and genders. My mission is to have this exhibition be an inspiration and spark a creativity in people of all ages, leading them to understand and believe that it's never too late to light that spark."
