Shakespeare’s Heroines: A Lecture and Book Signing with Carol Ann Lloyd
It’s tempting to think of the women in Shakespeare’s plays as tragic victims, picturing Ophelia softly drifting down the river to her death. But Shakespeare’s female characters actually show incredible grit and spirit, even though they are outnumbered by the men in Shakespeare’s plays. Several of his characters -- from young Juliet in Romeo and Juliet and quiet Cordelia in "King Lear" to Beatrice in "Much Ado About Nothing" and Isabella in "Measure for Measure" -- take the spotlight in their plays and leave us pondering their words and decisions more than 400 years later.
