“Swing in Style” Dance Class @ JB Duke Hotel
The JB Duke Hotel, a distinctive, AAA Four Diamond hotel property located on Duke University's campus, is hosting an introductory dance class, titled “Swing in Style.” Led by Sadie Zimet of Ninth Street Dance from 6-7 p.m., guests of this class will connect with others in a lively environment as they explore slow and quick variations of basic East Coast Swing movements, including the triple step, rock step and twist.
Adding to the immersive experience, guests will then venture to the JB Duke’s chic Lobby Lounge from 7-7:30 p.m. to enjoy an intimate Q&A session to learn about the cultural context and origins of the dance style they just mastered. The imaginative culinary team will also serve a complimentary cocktail sample inspired by the vibrant flavors of the Roaring Twenties in New York City.
Sadie Zimet, a Durham-based artist and instructor, has been teaching ballroom and social dance in the Triangle since 2013. Her expertise spans a wide variety of styles, including East and West Coast Swing, Tango, Cha Cha, Salsa and more. In addition to her dancing skills, Sadie is an award-winning musician and Appalachian clogger.
The class is part of the “Step Into Spring” Dance Series – a weekly program hosted by the JB Duke and the nearby AAA Four Diamond Washington Duke Inn & Golf Club on Thursdays in March (March 6, 13, 20 and 27). Immersing guests in the rhythm, history and culture of various dance styles in a relaxed, social atmosphere, the series boasts an exciting lineup of classes, including ‘Foxtrot Fever,’ ‘Salsa Spirit’ and ‘Mastering Merengue.’
The dance class and Q&A experience is priced at $25, and advanced registration is required by completing the following form: https://form.jotform.com/WDHR/step-into-spring-dance-series. Beginners are welcome, and dancers may register alone or as a couple (please complete a separate registration form for each participant).
