“Mastering Merengue” Dance Class @ JB Duke Hotel

Get ready to step, sway, and spin to the infectious rhythm of Merengue at JB Duke Hotel, the AAA Four Diamond hotel located on Duke University's campus. This beginner-friendly class, led by Sadie Zimet of Ninth Street Dance from 6-7 p.m., will introduce participants to the high-energy, accessible dance style hailing from the Dominican Republic. Whether they are looking to try something new or refine their moves, this Merengue class offers a fun, welcoming atmosphere for dancers of all levels.  After the class, guests will stop by the JB Duke’s chic Lobby Lounge from 7-7:30 p.m. for an intimate Q&A session, where they’ll learn about the cultural context and history of Merengue. The hotel’s imaginative culinary team will also treat guests to a complimentary specialty cocktail sample, crafted to reflect the vibrant flavors and traditions of the time period.  Sadie Zimet, a Durham-based artist and instructor, has been teaching ballroom and social dance in the Triangle since 2013. Her expertise spans a wide variety of styles, including East and West Coast Swing, Tango, Cha Cha, Salsa and more. In addition to her dancing skills, Sadie is an award-winning musician and Appalachian clogger.  The Merengue class is part of the “Step Into Spring” Dance Series – a weekly program hosted by the JB Duke and the nearby AAA Four Diamond Washington Duke Inn & Golf Club on Thursdays in March (March 6, 13, 20 and 27). Immersing guests in the rhythm, history and culture of various dance styles in a relaxed, social atmosphere, the series boasts a lineup of exciting classes, including ‘Foxtrot Fever,’ ‘Salsa Spirit’ and ‘Swing in Style.’ The dance class and Q&A session is priced at $25, and advanced registration is required by completing the following form: https://form.jotform.com/WDHR/step-into-spring-dance-series.
