THE SHOPS AT SKYVIEW LIVE MURAL PAINTING AND K-POP PARTY

The Shops at Skyview, a multi-level shopping destination in Flushing, Queens (https://www.theshopsatskyviewny.com), will welcome the Year of the Snake with a live mural painting and K-pop party on Wednesday, January 29th, from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Level 2 (next to Spectrum). During this event, Korean pop artist Yoyojin, a contemporary South Korean artist known for his distinctive character-driven artwork, will create a 40-foot-long mural entitled “The Ouroboros” as a tribute to the Year of the Snake. The ouroboros, a snake encircling itself by biting its own tail, is an ancient symbol of renewal, continuity, and new beginnings. This symbol will be intentionally hidden throughout the mural; the artists hopes viewers will locate the hidden symbol, reflect on its meaning, and engage with the work on a personal level as a source of inspiration and joy for the new year. Students from Francis Lewis High School’s Art and Design program will assist the artist, and The Shops at Skyview will provide a $2,000 scholarship awarded to the high school to distribute to outstanding art students. Since schools will be officially closed for the Lunar New Year holiday in NYC, The Shops at Skyview invites all children and their families to join the painting party; attendees will receive a complimentary coloring book and crayons. The party will feature a live DJ spinning K-pop hit music, K-pop dance performances, complimentary drinks and snacks courtesy of The Shops at Skyview tenant. In addition to the mural painting and K-pop party event on January 29th, the center will also host “Skyview Paramount,” a creative celebration of Chinese culture reminiscent of the glamorous era of old Shanghai, on Saturday, February 1st.
