Chinese Variety Show (1:00 PM - 2:30 PM): RSVP NOW! Get ready for a spectacular lineup featuring Peking Opera by the Oriental Operatic Artists Association, the mesmerizing Sichuan Face Changing, the iconic Lion Dance, amazing Chinese cultural dances, amazing Chinese cultural dances from some of the most talented performers in the community, a unique “hulusi” (cucurbit flute) showcase, and more! The Essence of Peking Opera Peking opera (京剧, Jīngjù) is one of China's most iconic and enduring traditional performing arts, blending singing, acting, dancing, and acrobatics in a highly stylized form. From specialized movements, distinct vocal techniques, and elaborate face makeup, Peking opera often tells stories based on Chinese history, folklore, and classical literature. Featuring four main roles - Sheng (生), Dan (旦), Jing (净), Chou (丑), and sometimes “Mo” (末) - our Peking opera showcase will spotlight each of these roles in their most classic performances, especially Jing’s role in 《挑滑車》(“The Pulley”), where General Gao Chong fights the Jin army alone during the Southern Song Dynasty. Cultural Fair(12:00 PM - 4:30 PM): RSVP NOW! This free Cultural Fair offers a rich tapestry of Lunar New Year traditions, from savoring authentic Chinese delights like roasted sweet potatoes and dumplings to hands-on cultural experiences such as lacquer fan crafting and face painting. Capture the festive spirit with a photo opportunity alongside the iconic Money God, and don’t miss the red envelope raffle for a chance to bring home good fortune in the year ahead! LNY Attire Parade(11:30 AM - 12:00 PM): Parade route is from Glow Cultural Center (133-29 41st Ave, Flushing NY 11355) to Flushing Town Hall (137-35 Northern Blvd, Flushing NY 11354) via 41st Ave, Main Street, and Northern Blvd *Tips for parade-observers: wear red, be prepared to meet traditional Chinese deities, and share many well-wishes! With over 5,000 square feet of cultural exhibits and interactive activities, you can enjoy traditional crafts, festive treats, live performances, and food demonstrations.
