Gotham FC hosts Historic Women’s Sporting Event: The Queens Classic at Citi Field vs. The Washington
For the first time in history, Gotham FC is bringing women’s professional soccer to Citi Field, marking the first women’s sporting event at the venue and the first NWSL match ever played in New York City. Gotham will face their long-standing rival, the Washington Spirit, on Wednesday, July 15 at 8:00 PM at Citi Field in Queens, New York in what will be known as The Queens Classic.
The two clubs squared off in the 2025 NWSL Championship, whereby Gotham came out victorious, further fueling the District vs. Empire rivalry. Come see Spirit star Trinity Rodman as she faces USWNT teammates Rose Lavelle, Emily Sonnett and more. The Queens Classic at Citi Field represents a defining moment for Gotham FC and women’s sports, highlighting the club’s growth while bringing elite professional soccer to an iconic New York stage.
Highlights of the match include:
• ROSE LAVELLE BOBBLEHEAD GIVEAWAY: The first 7,500 fans in attendance will receive a special-edition Rose Lavelle bobblehead, celebrating one of the game’s brightest stars.
• PRE-GAME NETWORKING: Join an exclusive pre-game event with top women leaders, including Yael Averbuch (Gotham FC), Caiti Donovan (WNBA), Jennifer O’Sullivan (NYCFC), and more. Enjoy a complimentary professional headshot, speed mentoring, and early venue access before the match.
• WORLD CUP WATCH PARTY: Before the start of the match, beginning at 2:30 PM with the FIFA World Cup 2026TM Semifinal Match Watch Party, presented by Dove, kicking off at 3 PM outside of Citi Field. This will also include various fan activations, such as a Bead Bar, Keep her Confident Wall, a photo booth, sign making stations, live performances, and more.
Getting There
• Public Transportation: Sports Illustrated Stadium via public transport is accessible by subway, LIRR or car.
o Subway: The 7 train goes straight to the Mets-Willets Point station. Connections to the 7 can be made on the E, F, M or R trains at the 74 Street-Broadway/Jackson Heights Roosevelt Avenue stop. Connections can also be made via N or W trains at Queensboro Plaza to the 7, or via G crosstown service to/from Brooklyn, with transfer at Court Square.
o LIRR: Direct LIRR service to Citi Field is available at the Mets-Willets Point Station.
• Driving: There are two parking areas within the fence line of Citi Field – Citi Field Main Parking Lots and Lot G. Additionally, there are three parking lots outside the fence line of Citi Field to accommodate general guest parking. Parking lot options include:
o Southfield/Commuter Lot
o Stadium View West
o Marina West.
