A Midsummer Night's Dream

The School of the New Bedford Ballet is thrilled to perform A Midsummer Night’s Dream, its 36th annual full-length ballet. Artistic Director Rebecca Waskiel-Marchesseault’s streamlined adaptation of Shakespeare’s romantic comedy will be performed at the Zeiterion Theatre on Saturday, June 6, at 1 PM and 7 PM. Set to the enchanting music of Mendelssohn, this whimsical tale of Oberon, the King of the Fairies, danced by Falmouth Academy junior, Gabriel Coughlin, and Titania, Queen of the Fairies, danced by ORR high school senior, Grace Rousseau, will bring Shakespeare’s classical story to life. Original choreography by Ms. Waskiel-Marchesseault and New Bedford Ballet instructors, Lauren Silva, Sara Brownell, and Sadie Marchesseault, will showcase beginner through advanced level ballet students, ages five through eighteen. A colorful garden filled with graceful fairies, nymphs, pixies and butterflies and a magical forest filled with dancing frogs, newts, ladybugs and bees adds to this ballet’s family appeal. Featured dancers also include Westport High school senior Nissa Inwood as the mischievous Puck. Lavish sets, beautiful costumes, and fun-loving characters are the ingredients for a spectacular performance for Shakespeare and dance fans of all ages. This performance is being sponsored by Econ Electrical Contractors, Lang, Xifaras, & Bullard; The William & Deborah Synnott Family, Riccardi’s Italian Restaurants and Buffet Catering, Acushnet Company, Colonial Shutterworks, Southcoast Health, and Early Learning Child Care. Reserved seating tickets are $35, and general admission prices are $28 for adults, $20 for seniors, students, and for children 12 years and younger. For over 36 years, the non-profit New Bedford Ballet has continued its mission of providing the South Coast region with the highest quality pre-professional classical ballet training in our community while enhancing the landscape for the performing arts.
