WSO’s featured ARTIST - EDUCATOR
Each April, the Warwick Symphony Orchestra honors our founding Music Director, educator George Low by featuring an artist-educator, performing musicians who are active educators in our community. Through this program, we draw attention to the rich community of artists who play an integral role in the training of and advocacy for the next generation of music makers in our region.
Pamela Lowell began playing the cello at nine years old through the Warwick Public Schools strings program in Warwick, Rhode Island. She went on to study privately through the Rhode Island Philharmonic Music School and perform with the Rhode Island Youth Philharmonic and All-State Orchestras. Pamela continued her music education at the University of Rhode Island where she graduated in 2001 with a Bachelors of Music Education. During her tenure at URI, she was principal cellist of the Orchestra as well as the cellist in the Undergraduate Honors String Quartet.
Pamela has performed with a wide variety of ensembles throughout New England. She is principal cellist of the Gilded Age Orchestra of Newport. She has played for the Ocean State Pops Orchestra, The New Bedford Symphony Orchestra, the Hartford Festival Orchestra, Opera Providence, The Col’Areo String Quartet, the Amari Quartet and many other freelance ensembles. She is also an avid liturgical cellist and an accompanying artist on the album: Crossing Jordan by Joanne Lurgio, copyright 2019.
Pamela has been a music educator for the Cranston Public Schools district since 2002 where she is the Director of Orchestral Activities at Cranston High School East. Pamela is the Orchestral Chair for the Rhode Island Music Educators Association where she oversees Rhode Island’s All State Orchestras. Pamela was a quarterfinalist for the Grammy Award “Music Educator of the Year” for 2022 and 2023. In addition to teaching and performing, she is a wife and mother to David, Violet and Levi Lowell. Pamela currently resides in Warwick, Rhode Island.
This activity is made possible in part by a grant from the Rhode Island State Council on the Arts, through an appropriation by the Rhode Island General Assembly and a grant from the National Endowment for the Arts. Additional Sponsorship has been provided by Tollgate Orthodontics.
