The Undaunted Professor Harp at the Shepherd Center
This great harmonica Bluesman has played with Muddy Waters and shared the bill with B.B. King. He was christened “Professor Harp.” by both Muddy and the renowned R&B artist, Solomon Burke. He, himself, added ‘Undaunted’ to reflect the fact that he will never give up in the struggle against isolation and racism. He has had a decades-long career as a Black Bluesman in the Boston area and was inducted into the New England Music Hall of Fame in 2025.
The Professor specializes in what he calls ‘roots music,’ a no nonsense, no frills, Texas style blues. He often uses the Leslie rotating-speaker sound system to give his harp a Hammond organ timbre while he alternately and simultaneously employs the standard or traditional ‘electrified’ blues harp. He tops this off by singing the blues with ferver, supported by top-flight musicians on guitar, bass and drums.
