“The Rhythm of Life” is a collaboration between adjunct faculty member Marcus Grant and student Trinity Leite ‘25. Marcus Grant is a professional drummer, percussionist, musicologist, and educator teaching DNC-370: Dance Performance to Salve Regina University dance majors. The course is focused on music theory and improvisational techniques, preparing dancers to work with live musicians. Trinity Leite ‘25 is a dance and finance major dedicated to dance scholarship, research, choreography, and performance.
The one night only performance will take place on December 11th at Ochre Court featuring Marcus Grant on drums, Camila Cortina on piano, Brayden Beason on bass, and Noah Campbell on saxophone. “The Rhythm of Life”: A Journey of Black American Music and Vernacular Dance will immerse audiences into a vivacious, lively, and ethereal showcase of authentic self-expression to encompass the complexities of human emotion through rhythmic exploration. The performance will feature choreography by Ashley Blake ‘26, Trinity Leite ‘25, and Jala Settles ‘25, as well as improvisational structures curated by Grant and Leite. Settles will also perform her original spoken word.
Doors will open at 7 pm and the first set begins at 7:30 pm.
