Planet Earth: Status Check

Join us for Planet Earth: Status Check, an engaging and timely event exploring how our planet is responding to a rapidly warming climate. This session brings together leading researchers from URI to share insights from ongoing studies that examine the complex interactions between human activity and the Earth system. 12 pm - 12:40 pm: Overview of ongoing research investigating our interactions with the Earth system in a time of warming climate 12:40 pm - 1pm: Q&A with students and public Speakers: Dawn Cardace (convener, Professor of Geosciences) specializes in reactions between water and the solid Earth, and is investigating if adding ground minerals to agricultural landscapes could cool local temperatures and temper carbon gas emissions. More @ https://web.uri.edu/geo/meet/dawn-cardace/ Ambarish Karmalkar (Assistant Professor of Geosciences) specializes in locating the place-based factors that drive regional climate variability and change in different parts of the world. More @ https://web.uri.edu/geo/meet/ambarish-karmalkar/ Erin Peck (Assistant Professor of Oceanography) specializes in research tied to sea level rise and the impacts of human land-use change on salt marshes. More @ https://web.uri.edu/gso/meet/erin-k-peck/ JP Walsh (Professor of Oceanography) specializes in coastal processes and hazards, coastal margin morphology, sedimentation and marsh dynamics, and pollutants in sensitive ecosystems (e.g., microplastics). More @ https://web.uri.edu/crc/meet/walsh/ Chris Russoniello (Assistant Professor of Geosciences) specializes in coastal hydrology. More @ https://web.uri.edu/geo/meet/christopher-russoniello/ Free.
