Explore the power and meaning of amulets at Imago

Imago Foundation for the Arts (IFA) will host a two-part program on “Amulets and Mindfulness” presented by Jeweler and Designer Lisa Lowenstein at Imago Gallery, 36 Market Street, Warren, Rhode Island. The program will start with a free public talk from 2 – 3:30 pm on Sunday, March 23. Please register on eventbrite at: https://amuletsprogramatimago.eventbrite.com to reserve your seat. The second portion of the program is made up of three workshops using materials from the artist's studio on March 23, 24 or 25, which you can book as an "add on" when you register for the artist's talk. Lisa lived for 15 years in Rome before creating Fulva Fusca, an experience that informs her Greco-Roman influenced art. Her jewelry blends aesthetic, historic and spiritual influences that are documented for each creation. One aspect of her work is her collection of allegorical bas reliefs that she casts from her own drawings or ancient originals she began casting in Italy, combining authentic roman antiquities, precious and semi-precious stones, pearls and vintage finds. “Amulets & Mindfulness” talk The talk will cover historical references and discuss the comfort people have sought in personal objects throughout the ages, touching on subjects of archeology, art history, spirituality & psychology. It will conclude with the communal exchange of “show and tell” stories about personal amulets (participants are encouraged to bring theirs to the talk.) The talk will be streamed on Facebook and later uploaded to the gallery’s YouTube page and forwarded to all registered participants. Creative /Expressive workshops On three separate dates we will offer follow-up workshops, an opportunity for reflection and expression. To register for one of these, choose an '"add-on" when you register for the free talk on eventbrite. Hands-on workshops are $40. The three workshops will be held: Sunday, March 23 from 4-7 pm (after the artist's talk) Monday, March 24 from 5-8 pm Tuesday, March 25 from 9:30 am – 12:30 pm The focus of the workshop is on designing items with meaning and that are meaningful. Participation in the workshops includes the use of materials from the artist's studio to design your amulet. There will be specialty items for sale as well. Makers’ skills are not required, there will be guidance, and, for a small fee, items can be completed after the workshop. Participants in previous workshops have designed items for themselves or as gifts for others (men, women and teens). Items designed include pieces for adornment, to support spiritual practices, mindfulness, fortune, etc. A worksheet will be distributed ahead of time to help participants think about how creating an amulet can be of relevance for themselves or someone they care about. Optional video links will be distributed ahead of time for anyone who is interested in working on their ‘makers’ skills. The workshops are designed for everyone (18+) regardless of gender or age. Light refreshments will be offered, and meals can be ordered in for consumption during the workshop.
