Gallery X invites artists to participate in our first exhibition of 2025…Social Justice, a showcase commemorating the ongoing fight for equality, human rights, and social justice for all beings.
Exhibition Summary
This exhibition provides a platform to celebrate the triumphs of collective action.
Historical Context
Located in New Bedford—a city renowned for its historic role in the Underground Railroad—this exhibition honors the resilience and determination of those who have resisted oppression and driven impactful change. From the fight for women’s suffrage and the abolition of slavery to movements for LGBTQ+ and animal rights, past struggles continue to inspire contemporary movements for justice and equality.
Call for Art
This exhibition coincides with Black History Month and reflects on the intersectionality of social and environmental justice. This exhibition encourages artists to engage with key social justice themes through their work. We welcome submissions from artists working in all media who are inspired by the spirit of activism and the pursuit of a more equitable world, you do not have to be a member of Gallery X to participate! Interested artist may bring their artwork fitting the theme Social Justice to Gallery X during regular gallery hours or by appointment from Wednesday January 22 through Monday, February 3.
• Submission Fees (for non-members): $15 for the first piece, $10 for each additional piece, 5 piece maximum. GX members submit work for free!
• All forms of media are accepted; paintings, photography, sculpture, ceramics, jewelry, etc.
• All work must be ready to hang and include proper hanging attachments (wire, sawtooth hanger, etc.). Pedestals are available for sculptures, three dimensional work, or jewelry.
• Gallery X handles all sales and retains a 35% commission on any sale made by non-members. Members are subject to 25% commission on works sold. Works do not have to be for sale to be included in the exhibition.
