About the Album
A Child’s Garden of Song, Vol. 2 is a collection of American folk settings based on Stevenson’s 1882 masterpiece, A Child’s Garden of Verses. Back in the early 2000’s a group of folk and Americana artists joined forces on the original Child’s Garden of Song. Owing to its popularity several of us embarked on recording a second volume, which reached fruition a mere 25 years later.
The album captures the innocence and wonder of childhood through simple yet expressive musical adaptations. The core group features vocalists Sara Grady and Sophia Pearson, multi-instrumentalist Phil Smith, Dee Davis on guitar, and Rick McKinney on bass. The recording also features DuosDuet members Niki Yaghmaee on violin and Golsana Shenasaei on cello, and several contributions from members of the old-timey band Alpaca Lunch.
“The poems are wonderfully expressive in their simplicity,” says the ensemble. “Our settings strive to maintain that sense of innocence and celebration of the wonders of childhood that Stevenson captured so perfectly over a century ago.”
