Inspiring Future Scientists Through Media

In celebration of the National Science Foundation’s 75th anniversary, the University of Rhode Island is hosting a fun-filled, family-friendly event to inspire future scientists. On Saturday, May 10, from 1 to 4 p.m., children and adults will learn through activities and interactive experiences and meet characters and creators from popular PBS KIDS television shows at URI’s DeChristofaro Center for Biotechnology and Life Sciences. The event is free and open to the public. The event – Inspiring Future Scientists through Media: Celebrating Collaborations between the National Science Foundation and PBS KIDS – is designed for children ages 4 to 10, along with their families and caregivers. Attendees will get a behind-the-scenes look at the extensive work involved in developing educational media and learn how media impacts children’s school and life success. Children will meet PBS KIDS’ characters Elinor and Ari from Elinor Wonders Why, Zadie and Zeke from Work It Out Wombats!, Splash and Bubbles, and Molly of Denali, and can play digital games, watch shows, and engage in hands-on activities. Educators and producers from PBS KIDS, GBH, and Shoe Ink will also share their research and development projects.
