South Coast Rail Information Session

The Acushnet Public Library is pleased to welcome Jean C. Fox, Director of Public Engagement South Coast Rail, the MBTA South Coast Rail Program, to share the project's history, what they have accomplished recently, and what they must complete before revenue service. She will speak about safety, which is essential. South Coast residents are not used to having fast trains in the region, so they need to acclimate themselves and be mindful of safe practices at and around railroad tracks. Jean Fox has advocated for enhanced public transportation options in Southeastern Massachusetts for decades, recognizing the benefit of reliable transit links for economic opportunity and smart growth. She served as MassDOT's Project Manager for South Coast Rail from 2011 to 2019, taking the project through design, environmental review, and permitting. After completing those processes, the state-funded project moved to construction with the MBTA in 2019, where Jean continued her work as the Director of Public Engagement. She has conducted numerous public meetings throughout her time with South Coast Rail, and she oversaw the development of information and materials to keep the public apprised of progress. A resident of Freetown, Jean is a former selectman and served 22 years on the Freetown-Lakeville Regional School Committee. She also serves on other boards and foundations and is the only member of the MA Commission on the Status of Women from the region.
