Shipwreck! Horseneck Point Lifesaving Station & South Coast Rescuers

The Acushnet Public Library welcomes Spinner Publications & Gay Gillespie on December 6 at 1 pm for a talk and signing event for Spinner's newest book...SHIPWRECK! Horseneck Point Lifesaving Station & South Coast Rescuers. "Shipwreck!" written by Charles “Chip” McGrath, delves into the history of sea rescuers who risked their lives to save shipwrecked sailors and survivors stranded at sea. The book highlights the treacherous waters off Massachusetts, which have been a graveyard for ships for centuries. Gay Gillespie brought the idea of a book to light after her husband, Chip, and friend, Howie Gifford, began the initial project to restore the Horseneck Point Station No. 69. She gathered their research and presented it to Spinner and friend Charles “Chip” McGrath. The resulting book was essential to Gay to document the history and the lives of those who risked so much to rescue survivors of coastal disasters. This event is free and open to the public. Signed books will be available for purchase. Shipwreck! received funding support from the Westport Cultural Council Community Grants, the Helen E. Ellis Charitable Trust, the Bank of America, the Westport Community Gift Fund, and the Buzzards Bay Coalition.
