With prices on practically everything continuing to go up, wouldn’t it be nice to get something for free?
Head to Berzerk Comics in Port St. Lucie on May 3 for Free Comic Book Day. The annual promotion, held each year on the first Saturday in May, is designed to welcome new readers to comics and introduce them to their local comic shops.
“For many of us who are fans, I think we remember that first book that won us over,” said shop owner John Beardsworth. “Free Comic Book Day gives new readers an opportunity to find that book for them. It’s a fun day.”
Specific books are produced by various publishers each year to be given away, while supplies last. Titles are available for all age ranges. In addition, Beardsworth says that the shop will have sales on other comics and collectibles, as well as prize drawings throughout the day. Making the day even more special is the fact that the shop will celebrate its first anniversary that weekend.
Free Comic Book Day festivities at the shop will also include local artists Marcus Grant, KoolAsHeck, and Christopher Arnold. Guests will have a chance to watch these creators turn blank pages into fantastic images and chat with them about art and their process. Guests may even get to walk away with an original piece of art.
Beardsworth says that one of the goals of Berzerk Comics is to be a welcoming space for fans of comics and pop culture.
“The comics community is special, and I think it’s important that Port St. Lucie has a place where fans can go, enjoy this visual medium, and just geek out over these amazing stories.”
