Academy String Quartet presents: "Domestic and Imported Lyricism"

The BROADcast Concert series continues on Monday, April 13, at 7:30 p.m. with a performance by the Academy String Quartet titled “Domestic and Imported Lyricism.” This upcoming program offers a captivating exploration of songful string music, bridging the gap between European tradition and American innovation. The evening’s repertoire features a side-by-side look at "imported" classics by Haydn—including his famous Serenade and a genuine slow movement from Opus 9, No. 2—paired with "domestic" American masterpieces such as George Walker’s Lyric for Strings and the original quartet version of Samuel Barber’s iconic Adagio. Closing the program is a unique hybrid of styles: a musical setting of the beloved children’s book Madeline, featuring the poetry of Paris as brought to life by American composer Elaine Fine. Admission to the concert is free, and all members of the community are welcome to attend this evening of evocative and beautiful melodies. Donations will be gratefully accepted to support the ongoing work of the Charles Wesley Music Foundation, which continues to bring music and community together.
