Resonance Works presents “ROMÉO & JULIETTE”
Resonance Works presents a fresh, immersive production of Gounod’s Roméo & Juliette, bringing one of opera’s most beautiful scores to Pittsburgh for the first time in 20 years. Originally created by stage director Justin Lucero and our own Maria Sensi Sellner for El Paso Opera, this emotionally charged staging draws audiences into the heart of Shakespeare’s most famous love story, where every moment of longing and loss is experienced with unforgettable immediacy. Pittsburgh-native Benjamin Werley and returning soprano Helen Zhibing Huang are the star cross’d lovers, with Philip Cokorinos as Frère Laurent, Ricardo Herrera as Lord Capulet, Patrick McNally as Mercutio, George Milosh as Tybalt, and Cherry Duke as Gertrude. With seating that surrounds the stage and orchestra, you will rarely experience opera as up-close as in this return to the New Hazlett Theater for our season finale.
