Dakota Staton belongs to the second.
Her sound rose from Pittsburgh’s music venues and sanctuaries, traveled the world, and returned as a living imprint on American World Social Music—Jazz.
She did not merely sing jazz; she carried its emotional architecture,
its memory, its survival. Her voice was bold, sensual, defiant,
and deeply human—an instrument of cultural truth.
To carry this legacy forward stands Gail “flo” Saunders,
another luminated daughter of Pittsburgh, whose artistry rises from the same soil that nurtured Staton’s voice.
