Grandma Rosa: Woman. Mother. Warrior. Curator of Family Herstory. Crooked Shadows visits heartfelt stories from childhood hijinks in a vibrant Italian American home to haunting moments of pain. As a granddaughter pieces together the stories of her grandma to solve a family mystery, she reaches a deeper understanding of her own experiences and uncovers a legacy of silent trauma.
Stories are gifts we give to each other. We laugh together. We cry together. We heal together. Loved ones are kept alive for generations through the retelling of their tales. This play is about the power of storytelling and the importance of sharing our lives in all their joy and pain. Shining a light in our darkest corners can unite our experiences through time and help recognize and break destructive cycles. We need to step out of the shadows.
In honor of the stories told in our play, The Bridge Initiative will be collecting new/used household goods to donate to A New Leaf. See a list of items on this page: https://turnanewleaf.org/get-involved/donate-items/
Content Transparency: Includes discussions of sexual assault, child abuse, and death/suicide.
This project is partially funded by the City of Tempe – Community Arts Grant
