Mini Compassion Camp

North Scottsdale United Methodist Church (NSUMC) warmly invites families to join our "Mini-Compassion Camp," on Sunday, November 24th, at 11:00 AM. This free, family-friendly event centers on building resilience and offers activities like mindfulness yoga, journaling, and a special gardening project for children ages 3–18. Parents will attend an inspirational session on resilience with renowned storyteller and educator James Cogan, who will share practical tools for facing modern family challenges, including bullying. The camp begins with a 20-minute family mindfulness yoga session for all ages, after which parents join James Cogan for a powerful presentation on cultivating resilience at home and in school. During this time, children engage in journaling, storytelling, and gardening activities designed to strengthen resilience and mindfulness. Each child will also plant a "resilient" plant to take home as a symbol of personal growth and strength. With over 25 years of experience, Jim Cogan captivates audiences of all ages with his lively, humorous storytelling, blending folklore, history, and personal memories. Using expressive sounds, gestures, and rich narratives, Jim brings stories to life, drawing from his background as an actor, teacher, journalist, and historian. He has created programs for prestigious venues like the J. Paul Getty Museum and the Segerstrom Center for the Arts, and his acclaimed work has been featured at the National Storytelling Festival and on PBS-TV’s STORYTIME. An award-winning speaker and educator, Jim is committed to promoting literacy, empathy, and the art of storytelling. Come spend the morning with NSUMC for an engaging, hands-on camp to build resilience, explore mindfulness, and nurture the mind and heart together!
