Annual Christmas Cantata: Canticle of Joy

Scottsdale, AZ – North Scottsdale United Methodist Church (NSUMC) warmly invites the community to experience the wonder of Christmas through music at its annual Christmas Cantata, featuring Canticle of Joy by Joseph Martin. The performance will take place on Sunday, December 14th at 10:00 a.m. in the NSUMC Sanctuary and is free and open to all.
This breathtaking musical event will be performed by the NSUMC Chancel Choir, the Ascension Lutheran Church Choir, the Children’s Choir and the NSUMC Handbell Choir, accompanied by a 22-piece orchestra of brass, percussion, piano, and organ. Complete with narration and soloists, this stirring work will reawaken the promise of God’s presence and love in our lives and remind us that our faith is a song worth singing—a Canticle of Joy that becomes even more glorious when it is shared.
About Canticle of Joy
Joseph Martin’s Canticle of Joy is a radiant musical celebration of the Christmas story, weaving together powerful choral harmonies, expressive solos, and vibrant orchestration. From triumphant fanfares to tender, prayerful moments, the work captures both the majesty and intimacy of Christ’s birth. Listeners are swept into a journey that proclaims hope, peace, and the boundless joy of God’s love. It’s a piece that stirs the soul and leaves the heart singing long after the final notes fade.
Special Guest Narrator – James Cogan
Adding depth and warmth to this year’s cantata will be narration by nationally renowned storyteller Jim Cogan. With over 25 years of experience, Jim captivates audiences of all ages through his lively, humorous, and heartfelt storytelling, blending folklore, history, and personal memories. His work has been featured at the National Storytelling Festival, on PBS-TV’s STORYTIME, and at prestigious venues such as the J. Paul Getty Museum and the Segerstrom Center for the Arts. An award-winning speaker and educator, Jim is dedicated to promoting literacy, empathy, and the timeless art of storytelling.

North Scottsdale United Methodist Church celebrates the love of God through Christ by offering a 10AM ONLINE and in-person service on Sunday. Sunday school is available in-person and online @ www.nsumckids.info. They have children and youth activities including; children’s choir, volleyball, mission trips, small groups, festivals and youth groups. N.S.U.M.C. also offers ONLINE and in-person adult Bible studies, men and women’s groups
