Join Hawaiian-culture expert Dr. Bruce Ka‘imiloa Chrisman, MD, for an engaging presentation on the unique construction of Hawaiian musical instruments and artifacts.
Curator Talk: From the Islands to the Mainland and Beyond

Musical traditions originating in Hawaii have been hugely consequential across the United States and around the world. MIM curator Rich Walter will discuss the lasting impact of Hawaiian music as heard by generations of audiences.
Interactive Performance: Hālau Kūliaikapono

Join Hālau Kūliaikapono for a presentation of traditional and modern hula, honoring Hawaii’s monarchy and the island of Oʻahu.
Interactive Performance: Desert Strummers and Kikahamālie Kaʻiwalani Hale o Hula

Experience the rhythms of Hawaiian hula with local dance group Kikahamālie Kaʻiwalani Hale o Hula and live band the Desert Strummers.
Workshop: Introduction to Ukulele
2:00–3:00 p.m.
Learn the history of Hawaii’s iconic instrument and explore the fundamentals of the ukulele with local masters from ShakAZ Jamz.
