The Holland Center and Desert Foothills Land Trust are excited to announce the next talk in the Foothills Speaker Series, "Reaching for the Heavens," featuring James Renn of the Vatican Observatory Foundation. This presentation will take place on February 4, 2025, at 6:00 PM at the Holland Community Center.
Renn will guide attendees through the rich history of the Vatican Observatory, from its pivotal role in calendar reform during the 16th century to its current scientific and philosophical explorations of the cosmos. Renn will shed light on the Observatory's ongoing commitment to advancing our understanding of the universe.
In addition to the Vatican's astronomical journey, Renn will explore Arizona's significant contributions to the field of astronomy. Attendees will explore what makes the state an ideal location for stargazing, and gain insights into the various observatories operating within Arizona, including the Vatican Advanced Technology Telescope on Mt. Graham.
