A Brush with God

Byzantine Iconography is a highly structured and disciplined art form that combines prayer and painting techniques to create serene images of Christ, Mary, the angels, and the saints following centuries-old guidelines. Peter Pearson has been studying and painting icons for over fifty years and teaching others to do so for nearly half that time. He has authored three books on the subject and has painted hundreds of icons for churches, monasteries, seminaries, convents, and individuals worldwide. Peter's students number in the thousands, and each has walked away with an icon of their very own. You don't need any previous experience or natural talent. We paint, pray, and follow the simple step-by-step instructions. All materials provided. This Advent we will be working from a prototype icon of “The Angel of the Lord” in a very unique style, a bit of a Western feel is evident in the softness of the image. We work Thursday evening after dinner, Friday evening after dinner, all day Saturday (9 am - 4 pm), and half-day Sunday (1 - 4 pm). Additional times will be available for those interested in working on a second icon. This is completely optional. Fee: Single, $625 includes meals and lodging; Commuter, $425 includes two dinners and one lunch. Pre-registration required. For information on double rooms, please email [email protected].
