The Kammerspiel announces the world premiere of Bob Sloan’s brazen new adaptation of Molière’s TARTUFFE. The production will open at the Performance Garage on February 20th and runs Friday through Sunday until March 8th.
Riffing on the original vitality of Molière’s rhymed couplets, this new take on the play brings a contemporary candor and even a soupçon of vitriol to Molière’s unsettlingly prescient text.
Often considered Molière’s greatest play, Tartuffe follows the journey of Orgon, epitome of Bourgeois-ness, who has become entranced by the ultra-pious charlatan Tartuffe. Only after jeopardizing his fortune, his family’s well-being (and their chastity) is he forced to recognize his folly having allowed himself to be seduced by such a cultish, self-serving zealot.
