On October 6, 2024, the Lafayette Bicentennial Tour will make a special stop in Delaware! Be part of this unforgettable journey as we honor the 200th anniversary of the Marquis de Lafayette’s Farewell Tour in America. Experience history come alive as you explore local Delaware sites that Lafayette visited in 1824, connecting our rich past with the vibrant present. Discover the remarkable life and legacy of the man who played a pivotal role in the founding of our nation.
Mark your calendars for the reenactment of Lafayette's celebrated 1824 visit to Wilmington on October 6, 2024. This historic day will be filled with engaging activities, including:
• Colonial reenactments
• Guest speakers

Join us at four iconic locations in Wilmington: Robinson House, Brandywine Village, Old Town Hall, and Amstel House in historic New Castle.
Event Schedule:
• Robinson House (11:30 AM - 4:00 PM): Tours, children’s activities, wool spinning demonstrations, and a colonial war encampment.
• Brandywine Village (12:00 PM - 3:00 PM): Trail marker presentation, speakers, colonial reenactors, and entertainment.
• Old Town Hall (10:00 AM - 4:00 PM): Enjoy an English country dance, a performance by Williamsburg's James Armistead Lafayette, games, French treats, and a selfie station.
• Amstel House (4:00 PM - 6:00 PM): Indulge in a wine reception and charcuterie, explore room tours, and enjoy live music. RSVP required at battellandreaddar.org.

Wilmington is proud to be part of the 13-month, 24-state Lafayette Bicentennial Celebration Tour, hosted by the American Friends of Lafayette. The reenactment of Lafayette’s original Farewell Tour begins on August 16, 2024, in New York City, culminating with a grand celebration on September 7, 2025, in Washington, D.C.
The American Friends of Lafayette is a historical and patriotic society dedicated to preserving the memory of Major General Gilbert du Motier, Marquis de Lafayette, and studying his life and legacy in both America and France.
