By George, It's Laura (Reminiscences of Mr. Abbott)

George Abbott, known for the "Abbott touch," was the most successful director, writer and producer in the history of Broadway. He was also a legendary mentor to many. Join Singer Laura Ward Collins, Music Director Steven Gross and special guests in this musical cabaret about “paying it forward” through the lens of Mr. Abbott’s unparalleled influence on Broadway, as well as her Great-Great Uncle George’s legacy in her own family.

------------------

Laura Ward Collins was born into a family with deep and prolific roots in the early years of Broadway, most notably with her Great-Great Uncle George being Mr. Abbott, the legendary Broadway director, playwright and producer. She spent much of her childhood on the stage and had a voice performance minor in college. Laura sang with the Camerata chamber group at Grace Cathedral in San Francisco for many years (including as a soprano soloist). Based in Portland, Oregon now, she has sung at Portland Center Stage and Mendelssohn’s PDX Musical Theater Showcases, along with performing as a cabaret artist - most recently with her “Roots and Wings” cabaret - in Portland and Seattle. Laura studies voice with Edward Sayegh in LA, and trains with Voice/Acting Coaches James Snyder and Julie Garnyé. She is thrilled to honor her family through the “By George, it’s Laura” cabaret alongside her Music Director Steven Gross, and especially so in Philadelphia, a city where many shows from the Golden Age of Broadway had their successful out-of-town tryouts.
