Spinning Basics at Fiber Guild Meeting

The Space Coast Weavers and Fiber Artists will meet on Saturday, January 25 at 10:00 a.m. at the Merritt Island Public Library, 1195 N. Courtenay Parkway. Following a business meeting and member show and tell Jeanie Mc Cormack will present a demonstration on “Spinning Basics”. Jeanie has been a textile enthusiast since childhood. She learned to sew, embroider and crochet as a preteen. As an adult ,she wanted to make her own yarn for projects, so she learned to spin and then to weave on a variety of looms. Jeanie will demonstrate basic spinning tools, supplies and techniques. If you already spin, bring your spindles & wheels for a fun time spinning together. Beginners will get hands on practice to pre-draft fibers and try out spinning on a drop spindle and spinning wheel. Different types of fiber will be provided for the workshop. There is no fee to participate. Jeanie’s has mastered a variety of fiber arts techniques. She presently is a teacher at Knit and Stitch Boutique in Cocoa Village. She helped organize this year’s Tour de Fleece and runs a twice monthly Spin In at the shop. Since 1983 SCW&FA has been Brevard’s go-to guild for fiber arts: spinning, weaving, basketry, rug hooking, and more. The guild helps fiber artists, beginning or advanced, learn through workshops and the informal exchange of ideas. They also work to educate the public about the fiber arts.  Meetings are free and open to the public. For more information, call Jeanie McCormack at 321-266-1610.
