The title “doctor of the church” is granted to saints whose writings and teachings are of particular importance. Considered to be altogether holy, heroic, and learned, doctors of the church have advanced the church’s knowledge of God, especially of Christ. Of the 37 saints who have been formally proclaimed a doctor of the church, four have been women: St. Hildegard of Bingen, St. Catherine of Siena, St. Teresa of Avila, and St. Therese of Lisieux. Join other women of faith as we retreat into silence, sharing, and reflection on what Pope Saint John Paul II calls the “feminine genius” of women, the spirituality of these four remarkable female saints, and their inspiration for our spiritual life.
Participants may converse at mealtimes. There would be an encouragement to share any insights in prayer or from the talks.
The retreat will include all meals, as well as Mass, Adoration, and the Sacrament of Reconciliation. It begins after check-in at 4:00 pm on Friday, August 15, and ends on Sunday, August 17 after 11:00 am Mass. Detailed check-in information will be sent to all registered participants a few days before the retreat. Retreat participants will also receive a detailed retreat schedule at check-in.
