Violet Sharp - based on a true story
“Violet Sharp,” by William Cameron, continues Season 42 April 10-26, 2026. It is a true crime story about the investigation of the Lindbergh baby kidnapping in 1932. The title comes from the name of a young maid working for the baby’s grandmother. Violet raises the suspicion of the police with a contradictory testimony about her whereabouts the day of the crime. Under pressure from her own personal demons, as well as the police, Violet’s efforts to clear her name cannot overpower a growing reputation of guilt. Though deemed “the crime of the century” at that time, the play looks beyond the sensationalism, and focuses on Violet's personal tragedy, leaving the audience to ponder the larger issues of celebrity and media manipulation.
