It is thrilling to hear this legendary orchestra, deemed by many a national treasure and beloved by audiences the world around. It was even more of a thrill in 2023, when they joined the Virginia Arts Festival in creating a residency and adjudicated competition for jazz ensembles from Historically Black Colleges and Universities. To hear these inspired young musicians perform alongside these seasoned jazz stars was an extraordinary experience.
