Schumann Cycle: "Love and Nature III" by Pianist Ian Hobson
The immensely versatile and internationally lauded pianist and conductor Ian Hobson, whose playing has been described by Gramophone as “intensely alive to expressive nuance, textural clarity and elastic shaping,” will continue his celebrated Robert Schumann Cycle with a solo piano recital on Friday evening, April 25, 2025, 7 p.m.
Tickets at $40 will be available online through Eventbrite, and at Tenri Cultural Institute on the day of the concerts. The full program follows:

Reviewing the latest solo piano recital in this Schumann Cycle, critic Rorianne Schrade wrote in the New York Concert Review: “He has an ability to convey the big picture, painting his interpretations in broad brushstrokes, with an architect’s grasp and without fussiness or self-indulgence. Generally one might not expect such a pianist to handle well all the delicate fluctuations of these miniatures – as Schumann can be rather “needy” – but what Mr. Hobson brought to them on this occasion was a refreshing clarity, perhaps akin to his conductor’s overview. Pianist and conductor Ian Hobson—called “powerful and persuasive” by The New York Times— is recognized internationally for his command of an extraordinarily comprehensive repertoire, his consummate performances of the Romantic masters, his deft and idiomatic readings of neglected piano music old and new, and his assured conducting from both the piano and the podium. Maestro Hobson serves as Guest Conductor of the Sinfonia Varsovia.
