FREE FAMILY FUN WITH THE LIVINGSTON SYMPHONY
With football season over and President's Day Weekend here, it's time to think about a final fun family Sunday afternoon on February 23. Why not join Maestro Anthony LaGruth and the Livingston Symphony Orchestra for their annual free family concert, "Who Needs a Conductor?"
All of the members of the orchestra know how to read music and play their instruments, and yet they have someone in front of them with his or her back to the audience waving a stick. Is this conductor their coach or coordinator or cheerleader, and do the musicians even pay attention to what he or she is doing with that "baton?" By listening to excerpts from a Bach prelude, Beethoven's Fifth Symphony and American composers Bernstein and Copland, hear the sounds of the various instruments and find out how the conductor makes the magic of music come together.
You and your children and grandchildren can join the Livingston Symphony Orchestra on Sunday afternoon February 23 at 2pm at Mount Pleasant Middle School for "Who Needs a Conductor?" This free family concert (donations gratefully accepted!) includes a prize raffle for children. The orchestra asks that children under 12 be accompanied by an adult.
